What is the (k)nitty gritty?

The MacMillan Online Dictionary (http://www.macmillandictionary.com/) defines "nitty gritty" as the most basic aspects of a situation or an activity that must be dealt with, even if they are unpleasant
Examples: the nitty-gritty of:

the daily nitty-gritty of running a company
get down to the nitty-gritty:

OK, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty – what do I need to do to get rid of him?

The (k)nitty gritty is the pun I thought about to put together the aim of this blog (to get straight to the point in my own life) and my favourite hobby, knitting!!!

As also many might think, sometimes you have to knit through the threads that life offers..
